The Jewellers Shop noodling area, off the road north of town, is a public fossicking ground where visitors are free to dig through the spoil heaps. Bring sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water; a small pick or screwdriver helps but is not essential. Keep what you find.
Realistic expectations: most people find nothing of value, but the occasional flash of colour in a freshly broken rock is what keeps people coming back. The hour or two you spend doing it is the cheapest activity in town and the best way to understand why the place exists at all.
