The Old Timers Mine, on Crowders Gully Road, is a self-guided walk through a genuine 1916 opal mine that includes a re-created underground dugout home from the same period. The route runs through narrow tunnels still pocked with the seams the original miners worked — opal traces are visible in the walls.
Compared to the bigger Umoona, the Old Timers feels more authentic and less polished; visitors do the tunnels at their own pace with a map. Helmets are provided. Allow 60–90 minutes. The same operator runs a small surface gemstone display and shop.
