Moonta Mines Tourist Railway

Volunteer-run railway loop through the mining field, with commentary on ruins and tailings.

The Moonta Mines Tourist Railway leaves from beside the museum and loops through the historic mining area. The commentary points out old workings, ore-sorting floors, tailings heaps, and the Precipitation Works, where copper was recovered from the waste.

It is useful as well as charming. Moonta Mines is spread out, and the railway gives a quick sense of how the industrial landscape fitted together.
