Water Tower Lookout

Old west-side water tower with wide views over town, gulf, railways, and ranges.

The Water Tower Lookout is a simple stop, but a useful one. Climb the steps on the west side of town and Port Augusta's geography comes into focus: the bridge, the gulf, the railway yards, the highways, and the distant Flinders Ranges.

It is best early or late in the day when the light is softer and the heat is less punishing. You do not need long here, but it helps explain why the town grew where it did.
