One Tree Hill Lookout is the quick way to understand Ararat's position in the landscape. From the hill above town, the Grampians sit to the west, Mount Langi Ghiran rises to the east, and the plains open out around the settlement.
It is a short stop rather than a full hike, but the view is worth doing near sunset if the weather is clear.
