Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park spreads around the low hills and dry forest outside town. It protects box-ironbark woodland, old goldfields sites, granite outcrops, and a good range of birdlife. In spring the wildflowers can be excellent.
The park is best by car or bike, using Chiltern as the base. Short walks and picnic stops are easy, while longer routes reach Mt Pilot, Yeddonba Aboriginal Cultural Site, and Woolshed Falls on the Beechworth side of the park.
