The Victorian Goldfields Railway is Maldon's most memorable moving piece of history. Trains run between Maldon and Castlemaine on a restored branch line that once served the goldfields, passing dry box-ironbark country and small rural stations along the way.
It is worth doing even if you are not a railway person. The trip gives Maldon a sense of distance from the main line, and the station precinct is a good place to see how much volunteer labour has gone into keeping the old railway alive.
