Tucked off Brunswick Street, the Rose Street Artists' Market is one of Melbourne's best-regarded design markets, running most weekends in a converted warehouse and its courtyard. The stalls are juried, so the standard is consistently high: jewellery, ceramics, prints, textiles, and homewares made by the people selling them, with a rooftop bar and food upstairs for when you need a break from browsing.
It is the right place to find a Melbourne-made gift or souvenir that is not a fridge magnet, and many of the stallholders have gone on to open their own shops in the surrounding streets. Saturdays and Sundays are the main trading days; check current hours before making a special trip.
