St Patrick's Cathedral

St Patrick's Cathedral is Melbourne's great Gothic Revival Catholic cathedral, begun in the 1850s, consecrated in 1897, and completed with its spires in 1939.

It is worth a deliberate stop for its scale, stained glass, stonework, and quiet setting just east of the central grid. The cathedral is easy to combine with Fitzroy Gardens, Cook's Cottage, and the eastern edge of the CBD.
