Snowy Rail Bridge

Long timber rail bridge across the Snowy River floodplain, restored as part of the rail-trail network.

The Snowy Rail Bridge is the most memorable built structure around Orbost: a long timber trestle stretching across the Snowy River floodplain. It carried the old railway that once connected Orbost to Bairnsdale, and its restoration has turned it into a walking and cycling landmark.

Even if you are not riding the full East Gippsland Rail Trail, come for the scale of the bridge and the wide floodplain views. It explains why the old railway mattered here.
