Point Lonsdale Lighthouse

Lighthouse and lookout above the Rip at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay.

Point Lonsdale Lighthouse stands above the western side of the Rip, the turbulent entrance channel between Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait. It is the best place near Queenscliff to understand how narrow and busy the sea gate to Melbourne really is.

The headland has short walks linking the lighthouse, pier, beach, and lookout points. Come when a large ship is entering or leaving the bay and the whole scene makes immediate sense.
