Wave Rock is one of Western Australia's great natural oddities: a granite cliff about 110 metres long and 15 metres high, curved like a breaking wave. Mineral stains run down the face in bands of ochre, grey, and orange, making it look even less like something that belongs in a wheat district.
The usual photo takes five minutes, but stay longer. Walk over Hyden Rock for views across the flat country, then follow the trails around the base to understand that the wave is only one exposed edge of a much larger granite outcrop.
