Hannan Street

Kalgoorlie's main street, lined with gold rush hotels, shops, and public buildings.

Hannan Street is Kalgoorlie's old commercial spine, named for prospector Paddy Hannan and still lined with the confident buildings of a gold town that expected to last. Balconied hotels, shops, and civic facades give the street a frontier grandeur that feels very Western Australian.

It is best walked slowly, especially in the softer light at either end of the day. The street is not a preserved theme park; it is a working town centre where the boomtown architecture has stayed in use.
