The Super Pit Lookout is the sight that makes Kalgoorlie-Boulder click. From the viewing area, the mine drops away in vast stepped walls, with haul trucks reduced to toys and the city suddenly feeling like an appendage to the gold beneath it.
Go when blasting or heavy vehicle movement is scheduled if you can, but even a quiet visit is worthwhile. The scale is hard to absorb from photographs; standing above the pit gives the goldfields their proper proportions.
