Niagara Dam was built in the 1890s to supply water for the railway and the nearby goldfields, only to be outclassed by better water sources soon after. That false start left a solid stone dam in a lonely patch of country north-east of Menzies.
Today it is a low-key picnic and camping area rather than a major sight. It works best as a side trip for travellers who enjoy Goldfields engineering relics, dry-country landscapes, and places where the silence is part of the visit.
