Menzies' old post office is a fragment of the gold-rush town's more substantial public architecture. The first post office here was little more than a tent, but a proper building was erected in 1896 and extended in 1903. Part of the original structure was later demolished, leaving the Shenton Street section as a reminder of the town's busier years.
