Bilya Koort Boodja

Ballardong Nyoongar cultural and environmental centre on the Avon River foreshore.

Bilya Koort Boodja is Northam's most substantial ground-level attraction: a modern centre focused on Ballardong Nyoongar culture, environmental knowledge, and the Avon River country around the town. The name means river, heart, land, which is a useful way to think about the place before you walk in.

The displays are interactive and locally rooted rather than generic. Visit before doing the river walk, and Northam's foreshore feels less like a town park and more like part of a much older cultural landscape.
