Staircase to the Moon

Full-moon optical effect over exposed Pilbara mudflats, visible on selected low-tide nights.

Onslow is one of the few places on the northwest coast where you can see the Staircase to the Moon. On full-moon spring tides, the moon rises over exposed mudflats and its reflection breaks into a long golden ladder.

It is a timing-dependent sight, generally between March and October. Check local viewing times before making plans, then head for the foreshore around Sunrise Beach or Onslow Point.
