The Gloucester Tree is Pemberton's best-known climb: a huge karri fitted with metal pegs spiralling up to a fire lookout platform 53 metres above the forest floor. It is not a theme-park climb, and the exposure is real, so turn back if your nerves say so.
Even from the ground, the tree is worth seeing for its scale and history. Fire lookouts once used these giants to scan the karri country for smoke, and the old engineering still feels wonderfully direct.
