Cooke Point is the classic Port Hedland lookout. By day it gives wide views over the coast and the ships waiting offshore. On the right evenings from March to October, it is one of the local places to watch the Staircase to the Moon, when the full moon rises over exposed tidal flats and the reflected light forms a bright path across the wet sand.
The effect depends on tide and moon timing, so check the local schedule before planning your evening around it.
