Dalgety House Museum is a small local history museum near the visitor centre. It covers Port Hedland before the port became a giant iron-ore export machine: pastoral settlement, coastal shipping, town life, and the 1912 disappearance of the SS Koombana in a cyclone.
The museum gives useful context for a place that can otherwise look like nothing but industry and road trains. It is best treated as the first stop before you go out to the harbour lookouts.
