Scarborough Beach is the social heart of Perth's northern beach suburbs — a broad, white-sand strand running for about two kilometres along the Indian Ocean, backed by a redeveloped foreshore of grassy terraces, food trucks, public art and an amphitheatre. The surf is reliable enough to support a small year-round surfing scene; flags are set out daily by the patrol club.
The beach is at its best in late afternoon, when the famous "Fremantle Doctor" sea breeze cools the sand and the sunset draws crowds onto the grassy esplanade. Free outdoor exercise gear and a skate park line the foreshore. Showers and changing rooms are by the main amphitheatre.
