Laura is the best beach on Majuro and a completely different experience from the busy D-U-D end of the atoll. The sand here is genuinely fine and white, the lagoon side is shallow and calm for swimming, and the pace of village life feels unhurried. Locals come here at weekends to picnic and swim.
The drive from D-U-D to Laura takes about forty minutes and passes through quieter islets where traditional Marshallese life is more visible than in the urban centre. Coconut palms dominate the landscape along the way, and you pass through several small communities before reaching the beach. There are no facilities to speak of, so bring food and water. The lagoon snorkelling just offshore from Laura is better than anything near D-U-D.
