Chuuk has a tropical maritime climate with warm temperatures year-round, typically 27–32°C. Rain falls throughout the year, but the drier months from January to March tend to have the best visibility for diving — up to 30 metres or more on the wrecks. The wet season runs from July to November, when afternoon squalls are common but mornings are usually clear.
The Chuuk Love Festival, held in October, is a celebration of the island's traditional courtship practices and is one of the few cultural events that welcomes outside visitors. Carnival season brings some liveliness to Weno.
