Île Ouen is reached by boat from the Nouméa and Mont-Dore side of the lagoon, often as a private excursion or locally arranged outing rather than a fixed public ferry. Conditions in the Woodin Canal and southern lagoon can change quickly, so use an operator or skipper who knows the area.
Do not assume that every beach or track is open to visitors. The island has Kanak customary land and village areas, so ask before landing outside an arranged stop.
