Ouara Village

Ouara is the main village area on Île Ouen and the place that keeps the island from feeling like a mere excursion spot. Boats, homes, church life, school routines, and customary land all matter here, even when visitors only see the shoreline for an hour.

If your trip includes Ouara, go through a local contact or guide and be careful with photography. The island is close to Nouméa, but it is still a lived-in Kanak place, not an open-air beach park.
