Getting Around

The island has no public transport. Renting a car is the most practical option — a small 4WD is useful since some roads to beaches are unpaved. Car hire is available in Wé, but options are limited; book ahead, especially in July and August.

Cycling is feasible for shorter distances — the terrain is flat in most places and the roads are quiet. Walking works well around individual beaches and villages, but the distances between sites (the island is about 40 km long) make it impractical as a primary means of getting around.

Most accommodation can arrange guided excursions to the main sights, which is worth considering if you want to reach the caves or the more remote beaches without your own vehicle.
