Xodre Cliffs

Wild south-coast cliffs with crashing surf and no crowds

The south coast of Lifou ends at Xodre, where the same kind of limestone walls that make Jokin famous come at you with bigger surf and far fewer people. The viewpoint is reached by a rough track from the village; the cliffs drop straight into deep water, and on a windy day the swell explodes upward in spray that reaches the top.

There's no infrastructure here — no railing, no signage, no fees — just the edge and the noise. Combine it with a stop at Luengoni for a complete south-island day.

A story
Where Jokin in the north is the postcard, Xodre in the south is the wild version: limestone walls hammered by open ocean swell, no village beneath, and almost no other visitors. The track ends abruptly at the cliff edge — pay attention. The waves below have been working at the same rock for so long they have cut a string of sea caves into the base of the cliff, audible as a low boom whenever a swell lands.
