A small, flat island connected to the southern tip of Ouvéa by Mouli Bridge. Most of it is coconut plantation and a few Kanak family compounds, threaded by a single dirt road. There is one small Catholic chapel, a couple of homestays, and the lagoon-side beach on the northern shore that some travellers prefer to the more famous strand on the main island — it is shorter, but emptier and arguably more beautiful, with the same impossible turquoise water and shaded by tipping coconut palms. Allow an hour to drive the whole island and another to swim.
