Skydive Taupo

Taupo is one of the world's great skydiving destinations, and on a clear day it is easy to see why: the view from altitude takes in Lake Taupo, the Tongariro volcanic peaks, and on cloudless days extends all the way to the sea in multiple directions. Multiple operators run tandem jumps from the airport south of town, making this one of the most competitive skydiving markets in New Zealand.

You can jump from as low as 9,000 feet (about 25 seconds of freefall) to a maximum of 15,000 feet (roughly 60 seconds). Prices vary accordingly; booking ahead in peak season is advisable. Weather can cancel jumps on short notice, particularly in winter.

A story
Skydive Taupo operates from Taupo Airport and has made the town one of the world's busiest skydiving centres. The altitude options go up to 15,000 feet, giving over a minute of freefall — and the view during the parachute descent over Lake Taupo and the volcanoes is, according to regular visitors, worth the price of the jump on its own.
