Hawera's water tower was built in 1914 after major fires exposed the town's weak water pressure. The 54-metre concrete tower became the town's landmark, visible across the flat streets and dairy country.
It has traditionally been climbable, but public access is currently closed while safety issues are assessed. Even from the ground, it is the one structure that makes Hawera visually distinct.
