Sawcut Gorge is a sharp slice through pale limestone in the dry hills west of Ward. The walk follows open, rough country before entering a tight rock corridor where the walls close in and the light bounces off the stone.
This is not a casual pavement stroll. Check Department of Conservation conditions, avoid the route after heavy rain, and carry water; the exposed Marlborough backcountry is part of the appeal, but it asks for a little preparation.
