The Lake Rotoiti Circuit starts at Kerr Bay and follows the lake shore through beech forest, with views to high mountain ridges and the option to use a water taxi to shorten the day. DOC lists the full circuit as a long advanced walk, so many visitors choose a section rather than trying to loop the whole lake.
Even a short walk from Kerr Bay gives you the feel of Nelson Lakes: clear water, forest shade, mountain air, and enough sandflies in summer to remind you to bring repellent.
