Charming Creek Walkway

Historic bush-tramway walk through gorge, tunnels, mining relics, and Mangatini Falls.

Charming Creek Walkway follows an old timber and coal tramway through the Ngakawau gorge country. The appeal is the mix: railway formation underfoot, rusting mining gear in the bush, tunnels, bridges, river noise, and views toward Mangatini Falls.

This is West Coast walking, so conditions matter. DOC has split the route into separate sections at times because of slips; check the current access before setting out, bring water, and turn back before closed or unstable sections.
