Thunder Creek Falls

Thunder Creek Falls is one of the easiest scenic stops on the Haast Pass road. A short forest track leads to a viewpoint of the 28-metre waterfall, where white water drops through thick beech forest into the valley below.

It is a quick stop rather than a hike, but a rewarding one if you are driving between Haast and Wanaka. Facilities are limited along this stretch, so treat it as a photo and leg-stretch break.
