Karamea Estuary is the quiet counterpoint to the inland caves and coastal track. Around the river mouth, tide, sand, and wetland edges create good birdwatching and easy wandering close to town.
It is not a dramatic sight in the way Ōpārara is. Come for stillness, evening light, and the sense of being at the far edge of the road system.
