Abel Tasman Landing Site

The Abel Tasman Landing Site marks the first recorded European landing in Tonga, more than a century before Captain Cook arrived. It is a modest historic stop rather than a large attraction, but the setting on western Tongatapu gives the marker more weight.

It makes most sense as part of a drive along this side of the island, combined with Kolovai's flying foxes and the nearby beaches. Do not expect much interpretation on site; the value is in standing at the place and knowing what happened there.
