Kanokupolu Beach

Adjacent beach with the historical seat of the Tu'i Kanokupolu line

A neighbouring beach a few kilometres north of Kolovai, with a small resort cluster and a low-key local atmosphere. The water is similar — a wide reef flat protected by an outer barrier — but the swimming here is slightly easier and there are sun loungers at the resort if you want them.

Historically Kanokupolu was the seat of one of the three Tongan royal lines (the Tu'i Kanokupolu, founded in the seventeenth century), and the current royal family descends from this line. A small marker commemorates the founding.
