The country's national museum sits in a modest building near the waterfront. The collection is small but well laid out: archaeological pottery from the Lapita period (the seafaring ancestors of all Polynesians, who reached Tonga 3,000 years ago), royal portraits, tapa cloth, and a chronological history of the islands from first settlement through the missionary century and into the modern monarchy.
An hour is enough. Entry is around 5 pa'anga; closed Sundays.
