The administrative centre of Malampa province, set on the northeast coast of Malakula. Lakatoro is small — a handful of streets running up the slope from the lagoon — but it has a market, a few shops, a hospital, a couple of basic guesthouses, and the offices that book most cultural visits to villages around the island.
It is not a destination in itself, but it is where almost every trip to Malakula starts and ends. The Saturday market is the social event of the week, drawing villagers from as far as the south coast.
