A handsome lakeside inn at the end of the road on the eastern shore of Lake Altaussee, with a wooden terrace right at the water's edge — possibly the prettiest setting for a meal in the whole Salzkammergut. The kitchen does straightforward regional cooking with the lake's own catch as its centrepiece: smoked char, Reinanke whitefish baked in herbs, and freshwater crayfish in season.
The dining room inside is a low-ceilinged traditional Stube; the terrace is the obvious choice in fine weather. Reservations are essential at weekends in summer. The inn also runs a small hotel upstairs.
