Literaturmuseum Altaussee

A small but well-presented museum in the village centre dedicated to the constellation of writers, composers, and artists who summered in Altaussee from the late 19th century onward — Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Jakob Wassermann, Theodor Herzl, Friedrich Torberg, and many others.

The collection includes manuscripts, photographs, and personal effects, with helpful English captions on the main displays. The exhibits also touch on Altaussee's role during the Nazi annexation, when the village briefly housed several leading party figures. Open mainly in summer; entry is inexpensive.
