Ried Achleiten is one of the vineyard slopes that make Weißenkirchen more than a Danube village with a photogenic church. Dry-stone terraces climb steeply above town, planted mainly with Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, with views back over the river and the opposite bank.
You do not need to be a wine specialist to enjoy it. Follow the lanes uphill in the late afternoon, when the stone walls hold the warmth and the Danube starts to catch the low light. The walk is short but steep enough to make a glass of local wine feel earned.
