The Wachau Museum occupies the Teisenhoferhof, a handsome courtyard building tucked below the fortified church. The setting is half the pleasure: arcades, stonework, and the sense of a prosperous wine village that had money, taste, and a need for protection.
Exhibitions focus on Wachau art, local culture, and winegrowing traditions. It is not a major museum, but it gives useful texture to a valley that can otherwise blur into vines, boats, and pretty village fronts.
