St. Michael, two kilometres west of Weißenkirchen, has another fortified church site in a quieter setting. Churches have stood here for centuries, and the present building combines a late medieval fortified core with later Baroque changes.
It works best as part of a walk or cycle along the Danube rather than a standalone expedition. The appeal is the continuity: vineyards, river, small settlements, and churches built as both spiritual centres and refuges.
