Mardakan's Caspian shore draws Baku residents throughout the summer, when the city's heat makes the sea air a relief. The beaches here are sandy and the water shallow close to shore — good for swimming, though the Caspian can be surprisingly rough when the winds pick up.
The Dalga beach area, a few kilometres north of the village centre, has basic facilities and a small waterpark. The beaches are busiest on summer weekends when day-trippers arrive from Baku. Outside the main swimming season — roughly June to September — the shore is largely empty and the flat landscape around the Absheron Peninsula takes on a bleaker, more interesting character.
