Sumgait Boulevard

The Sumgait Boulevard is a palm-lined promenade running along the Caspian coast for several kilometres — an impressive piece of civic infrastructure for a city better known for its chemical plants. The boulevard was refurbished in the 2010s as part of Azerbaijan's broader drive to improve urban public spaces, and the result is genuinely pleasant: wide paved paths, park benches, pavilions, and unobstructed views across the Caspian.

In the evenings, it fills with families and young people doing the classic post-dinner promenade. The sea here is calm and relatively clean compared to the Baku waterfront. A few cafes and kiosks operate along the boulevard in warm weather.
