Slavianski Bazaar Festival

The Slavianski Bazaar (Slavic Bazaar) is Vitebsk's major annual event — an international festival of music and performing arts held each July that draws performers and visitors from across the former Soviet Union and beyond. The main concerts take place at the open-air Summer Amphitheatre, a large purpose-built venue that holds thousands of people. The festival atmosphere transforms the city centre for the week it runs: outdoor stages, street food, and crowds that are unusual in a city of Vitebsk's otherwise quiet temperament.

The festival has been running since 1992 and has become one of the biggest music festivals in the region. Acts range from folk and classical to pop, with a strong emphasis on Slavic musical traditions. If you are visiting Belarus in July and enjoy music festivals, Vitebsk during Slavianski Bazaar is worth the trip. Book accommodation well in advance.
