Geel's market square, dominated by the white stuccoed town hall on the eastern side. Bordered by cafés, brasseries, and small shops, the square is the centre of town life — and the venue for the Palmkermis carnival in the second week of March, the high point of the local year, with parades, fairground rides, and brass bands.
Weekly market on Wednesday morning. Most cafés have outdoor terraces and serve the regional Kempen beers — Bornem, Witkap, and the surrounding Trappist abbeys are not far away.
