Said to be the only museum in the world dedicated to the rose. The collection covers the history of Bulgarian rose-oil production from the 17th century onward, with old distillation vessels, scales, oil flasks made from horn and wood, paintings of harvests, and machinery used in modern factories. It is small and easy to absorb in an hour.
The museum sits on the northern edge of Kazanlak, a 15-minute walk from the centre, sharing grounds with the Institute for the Rose and Aromatic Plants. The gift shop sells rose oil, rose water, rose jam, rose soap, and rose liqueur — the genuine local product, not the airport-shop kind. If you visit during the harvest you can sometimes watch the distillation in progress.
